Grass Plug Care Guide
Open the box and remove the plugs as soon as you possibly can. These plug trays should not be stored in a stacked position, but placed side by side in a sunny spot. Go ahead and water your plugs, prior to installation. If these plugs will sit for more than a day, go ahead and thoroughly water daily until they've been planted.
Once the plugs have been planted, you will want to firmly step on each plug to push out any air pockets and to ensure a tight fit in the hole. Fertilize at a full rate once a month or at a half rate every two weeks. Continue to water every few days or as needed to maintain soil moisture. Water deeply as often as needed to keep the soil moist but not overly saturated for an extended period. After a couple of weeks, you can start to space out the watering cycles. Anytime the plugs look dry, it is safe to water.
Begin mowing as needed but do not try to mow low for at least a month. Always a little off the top is best while your plugs are establishing new roots and gaining a foothold. Mowing at least once per week is good but twice a week is better.
Herbicides that are labeled for your grass type are safe to apply. Pre-emergent herbicides are safe to apply but will keep your grass from spreading and tacking new roots down.
Appropriate Fungicides are safe to apply at any time.
